Reality Is Bleak - Soul Syphon
3/5, Hey, This Kinda Slaps. A solid metalcore debut from CJ Jarvis with heavy riffs and raw vocals, if sometimes formulaic. Bleak title, promising start.
The Beautiful Dark of Life - Atreyu
4/5, Put This In Your Rotation. An impressive, deeply personal return to metal that merges Atreyu’s classic sound with modern metalcore.
Through Storms Ahead - As I Lay Dying
4/5, Put This In Your Rotation. Surpasses Shaped By Fire without quite reaching An Ocean Between Us, and still stands taller than most metalcore out right now.
Negative Spaces - Poppy
4/5, Put This In Your Rotation. Poppy defies expectations with one of the most purposeful, badass metalcore albums of the year. Dance-pop detours included. Welcome to Duffcore.
