Slow Descent - Soul Exchange
I may have only just started the Renegade Reviews: Quick Bites project this week, but I’m already going to treat you to some extra coverage this week, as there are just too many new releases coming out this week that I need to talk about! So, let’s chat about Soul Exchange’s new EP: Slow Descent.
Slow Descent scratched a Hardcore itch that I’ve been having for a long time now! The EP is heavy, raw, energetic, introspective, and stripped back. The production value isn’t some polished, made-in-a-lab, sterile white noise like so many modern releases, which I desperately needed to hear. The whole EP sounds like something I would have found on a cassette in my dad’s milk crate of music in the 90s/early 2000s and would have demanded we listen to it nonstop until my ears bled, which is one of the highest compliments I can give. The whole EP is quick and ferocious, captivating you in just under 16 minutes. The riffs are zesty, the drums sound real and not programmed in the slightest, and the vocals give the energy of “fuck it, send it!”.
I was completely caught off guard with this release but am glad it landed on my lap! I’ve been craving some good, raw, brutal Hardcore, and Soul Exchange provided just that. If they can continue to deliver this kind of work, they can consider me a fan. Make sure you check this EP out when it releases June 5th!
